FAQ

What is this?

Peffisaur is a free, multiuser MMS weblog. I wanted to be able to upload pictures from my mobile phone to my website. I found some PHP scripting that enabled me to do this and the idea spread from there. A good friend of mine (thanks Ducey!) linked me to the predecessor of Peffisaur (MMSDiary) and after successfully running that, I decided to give this a go. All credit for the writing of Peffisaur is to be credited to Stefan Hellkvist. People can send MMS with their mobile phones containing photos and texts and it will be presented on the web page. Each user is also given their own page with only their postings on. It's all about sharing your daily life with others - at least the part of your life that you want to share and feel you can squeeze into your mobile phone.

What is MMS?

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service. In short it is the successor of SMS (Short Message Service) with the enhancements that you can not only send text but basically any content type your phone can handle such as images, text, videos, ring signals and audio clips.

Can I join?

Yes, you are welcome to! Just sign up by filling out a small form.

Does it cost money?

No. In the words of the creator, Stefan Hellkvist: "I do this as a hobby project. I do not aim to make any money from this. I only do it for fun. Too much in life is controlled by money. There are other sources of happiness out there."

Do I have to have a phone with a camera to join?

Since this is an MMS blogging site it is much more fun if you can participate and contribute with content but there is nothing that stops you from joining anyway just to participate in the discussions. Everyone is welcome.

What phones are supported?

Well, all phones with MMS should work. So far though, it has only been tested with SonyEricsson phones (T68i, T310, T610, P800), Nokia phones (6600, 7650, 7250) and Sagem MyX-5m. If your phone is not listed and it works for you please drop me a note and tell me about it. I will add to this list as emails are received.

It doesn't work for me. Can my operator have blocked me?

Yes, some operators do not allow access to external MMSC:s. There might be workarounds for it though - drop me a note If everything fails you can always fall back to email so that you send the message to an email address using your operator's MMSC.

Who created and runs this site?

I, Phree, created it and I pay for the hosting of it.

How do I set up my phone?

When you sign up you will be sent instructions on how to do that.

Can I still send regular MMS:es with your settings?

It depends on which method of upload you choose. If you prefer to use email upload you will still be using your operator's settings and everything will work as before. If you instead prefer to use shellpier.co.uk as MMSC you will not be able to send regular MMS:es any longer. All messages will go to the site. The advantage of the "shellpier.co.uk as MMSC"- alternative is that it will not cost you any money apart from the traffic cost. The disadvantage of that one is of course that you cannot send regular MMS:es any longer. Although, you could simply do what I do which is setup 2 seperate MMS accounts and choose either your standard MMS account or the shellpier account depending on whether you wish to send your MMS to this site or to another mobile phone. The email-alternative is the opposite of course.

Why don't you use MMS sent to an email address instead of this direct posting?

I do that now. You can choose to either edit your MMSC setting and use the supplied URL or to keep your operator's setting and send the message to an email address instead.

What about copyrighted material and abuse?

The first day someone abuses this to upload either copyrighted material or other content which is not good to display publicly I will of course ban that user forever but also add moderation so that each post will be examined before going live. Let's see how long the time of complete freedom will last. Show some dignity please!

Where can I find support or discuss the software?

I try to help as much as I can but I don't have unlimited time resources so please try and help eachother. You can go to the forum at hellkvist.org and post a question there. Then I will answer it when I have time or perhaps someone else can help you. You can also discuss MMS Blogging in general there if you like.

What about the weird names 'Peffis' and 'Peffisaur'. What is that and who is the guy in the hat?

It's a personal thing. Go away! Don't ask! :-)
